Should you Send a Thank You Note?

There is often some confusion as to whether you should send a thank you note after an interview. Some people believe it is not necessary and others think it is a nice touch. I will go beyond that and say it is a must!

Should you send a Thank You note?

There is often some confusion as to whether it is important to send a thank you note after an interview. Some people believe it is not necessary and others think it is a nice touch. I will go beyond that and say it is a must!

120 Seconds to Ace the Interview

That’s how long it takes for an employer to decide whether they want to hire you or not. First impressions set the tone for the interview and in the vast majority of cases, once that impression is set, it is not usually turned around. So here are some important tips you can use to ensure you make a great first impression.

Interviewing Tips to Avoid a Bad Decision

Most people who are interviewing have 1 thing in mind – get a job offer. This is certainly the proof that you interviewed well but before you accept that offer, make sure you did some appropriate interviewing on your own.

 Interviewing Tips: What Managers Want

When you are interviewing with your potential next boss, consider what a manager is really looking for. Interestingly, I asked over 200 staff members what a manager seeks, and only 2 had any clue. So here is an insight that you should use when you are interviewing for a potential job.

Interviewing Tips: A Must Do for Sales Professionals

I had a client today who is getting interviews but not offers. Not a bad place to be, but very frustrating because he has interviewed for positions he really wants. When I asked him what happened in the interview, it was clear that there was at least one thing he was failing to do.

Interviewing Tips: Do You Pass the Europe Test?

A hiring manager once said to me, “Before I hire anyone they have to pass the Europe test”. When I asked what that was she replied, “I have to be comfortable sitting next to them on a plane to Europe”.

 Job Search Phone Etiquette

I frequently call my clients at their provided numbers to discuss their resumes. I am often amazed at what happens, and in particular, how harmful it will be to their job search efforts.

 Great People Get Hired

One of my better managers once said to me, “Don, there are only 3 kinds of people in this world, the good, the bad and the mediocre.” “The bad people are easy,“ he said, “if you have them you get rid of them and if you see them in an interview, just keep looking. The good people are easy too since you support them on the job and hire them just as quickly as you can.”

“It’s the mediocre people who kill us”, he concluded “because most of the people we meet on the job are, unfortunately, mediocre. So never settle on the mediocre hire just because you want a position filled…always wait for the really good person to come along.”

The Most Important Question to Ask in an Interview

The most important question to ask in an interview is “What are the challenges I would face in this job in the first 6 months?” Pay close attention to the interviewer’s answer as it will tell you exactly what they are looking for. Then focus your responses on the skills and achievements you have produced that would give them the confidence that you will succeed on the job.
